I am a Full Stack Developer based in Ayrshire, Scotland and this portfolio is an insight in to my experience, passions and projects.



BSc (Hons) Computer Games Development

I achieved distinction for my BSc followed by First Class Honours for BSc(Hons) Computer Games Development at the University of the West of Scotland.



Experience

I have been programming for around 14 years on all sorts of projects ranging from games, chat clients and web design. The last 5 of those have been in a professional setting working with a wide assortment of web focused and cloud based technologies, predominantly in the Finance sector.

About Me

Hello

I am a 33 year old man from Scotland where I currently live with my wife in East Ayrshire. I’m a big fan of videogames, technology, cars and movies. After many years, my primary passion continues to be developing applications.

I have been programming for around 14 years, starting out learning the basics with Visual Basic 6. Since then I have used a wide range of languages and technologies for a variety of projects such as C# for Unity, Java, HTML5/CSS3/Javascript and PHP.

The projects I have been a part of have ranged from games to websites to web-based finance dashboards.





Education

From my time spent in further education, I developed a strong background in programming and design, studying NC Computing with Multimedia and Networking at college, followed by HNC Computing with Software Development. At University, I achieved distinction for my BSc followed by First Class Honours for BSc(Hons) Computer Games Development at the University of the West of Scotland.

Boyd Digital

I worked as a Web Developer in Stevenston, North Ayrshire for the SEO company, Boyd Digital. As part of the technical team, I was responsible for the design and development of websites, creating and maintaining scripts, maintaining servers and providing remote assistance to the company’s other offices around the United Kingdom as we worked alongside our largest client Groupon.

I learned a lot about Search Engine Optimisation, a skill I still enjoy utilising in my personal projects today.





Rare Trade

I then worked for a North Ayrshire based Web Design company, Rare Trade, as a Full Stack Developer. I designed and implemented websites and systems for Ayrshire businesses. This required me to make use of a wide variety of technologies such as WordPress, PHP, JQuery, Typescript and many more.

Finance 4 Group

For the last 4 years, I have worked as a Full Stack Developer for a Finance Broker who provides finance via a web based dashboard to businesses in Healthcare sectors around the United Kingdom. As a result, I have grown to be very comfortable with MVC, SQL, AWS and APIs, working closely with developers at Klarna, Hitachi and SplitIt to name just a few.

The varied range of projects I have been involved with from University and work experience have allowed me to realise that I am adaptable and dependable. I love overcoming a problem and learning new skills along the way.



On our time off, my wife and I enjoy exploring historic sites and trails to enjoy the sights and scenery of Scotland.

I also have a project car, a 1996 Chevrolet Camaro Z28, which I am attempting to learn car mechanics with, whilst having a little fun too.

I like to work on and create content for my website, covering news and reviews for Free to Play shooter games on the PC.

I am a big fan of videogames. If I am not playing them with friends then I am working on creating my own games in Unity or HTML5.
