Social Chat Site is a web application I created in 2020. The goal was to take an old idea, in the form of chat rooms, and bring them to the modern age with an easy-to-use and safe application for users to talk to chat with strangers in their browser.

The idea was born from isolation and loneliness being a big topic during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns. People, young and old, 

The application also provided a platform for which I could continue to develop my existing skillset. It was created with the MVC library CodeIgniter, using PHP, HTML, JS and CSS. Search Engine Optimisation was also considered with the layout of the initial pages to ensure the website would be indexed in Google’s search results.

The MVP with guest users, registration, main chat, private chats and profanity filtering was completed. When lockdowns ended and Covid restrictions eased, work picked up again so the project was shelved and kept as a portfolio piece. At some point I would like to build it out further, enhance the user experience and their security, and incorporate gamification.
